Faith / Question & answer

Can holy fear and love coexist?

Hebrews 12 calls for grateful worship with reverence and awe. 1 John 4 describes the relationship between mature love and fear tied to punishment. These passages should not be flattened into a claim that either all fear is holy or all reverence is wrong.

Context and limits

Awe, humility, repentance, love, and mercy belong together. Persistent terror is not something this ministry exploits. If religious fear overwhelms daily life, seek compassionate pastoral support and, when appropriate, a qualified mental-health professional.
